A ‘cookie’ is data which is placed on your computer in the process of visiting a website. The only function of a cookie itself is to store information. The information stored in the cookie can then be used by the website for a number of functions. For example, some cookies are used to track which areas of a site, or sites, have been visited, while others are used to personalise your experience on a website (for example, you may choose to change the background colour of a particular website and, when you return to it, the background colour is automatically changed to match the colour stored in the cookie for that site).

This website stores a cookie on your computer, to record your preferred font size. This site also makes use of Google® Analytics, which uses cookies to provide us with statistics such as the number of visits to our sites, and which pages are most visited.

Recent browsers allow you to prevent cookies being stored on your computer, but usually cookies are accepted unless you change your browser’s settings.
